How much space does the violinist need?

Less than you'd think. One violinist with his own speakers fits in a corner most venues already have.

Short answer

A little less than a 10 by 10 foot space, about the footprint of a tailgating tent. As Jared puts it, “even if there's less space than that, I could still make it work.” At the ceremony he usually sets up behind your guests on the right side.

What fits in that space

  • Jared and his violin. He typically plays standing up the whole time, so there's no chair to fit in.
  • His own speakers and a music stand. Every booking includes Jared's own sound system.
  • No cables across the aisle. The violin is wireless, so there are no cables for guests to trip on.
  • Shade, if you're outside. Jared needs some kind of shade; venues have provided an umbrella.
  • A spot for cases. A small out-of-the-way place, like a closet, to store instrument cases.

Timing the space

Jared arrives about an hour before he starts playing, so the violin spot should be free by then for setup and a sound-check. If your ceremony and cocktail hour are in two spots at one venue, he sets up both before the ceremony, then moves the violin over when it ends. If cocktail hour is at another venue, he sets that space up first. When the violinist arrives.

No outlet near the best spot? That's fine too. Jared can run on battery power.

Space and setup questions

Do you need a chair?

No. Jared typically plays standing up the whole time.

Will your setup block the aisle?

No. For the ceremony, Jared typically sets up behind the guests on the right side, and the violin is wireless.

Do you need anything from the venue?

Extreme Strings is self-sufficient by design. Outdoors, Jared needs some kind of shade, and he needs a small spot to store his instrument cases.

What if our space is smaller than 10 by 10 feet?

Tell us what you have. In Jared's words, even with less space than that, he can still make it work.
