What happens if the weather turns at our outdoor wedding?

Colorado weather can change in an afternoon. Here's exactly where Jared draws the line, and what he needs from you.

Short answer

A very fine mist that isn't collecting anywhere is fine. Once drops start falling, the electric gear has to stay dry, so the music moves to covered or indoor backup space. Jared also needs shade on sunny days and a heater if it's near freezing.

ConditionsWhat happens
Very fine mist, not collecting anywhereThe music goes on
Rain starting to fallMove to covered or indoor backup space
SunShade is required; venues have provided an umbrella
Near 32 degreesA heater, so Jared's fingers don't freeze
No outletsBattery power, good for about a day

Asked where the bright line is, Jared said: “if it's a very fine mist and it's not, like, accumulating anywhere, then we're okay. But if it starts to, like, drop, then that's where things can get electrocute-y.” Shade isn't a nice-to-have, either. There's a shade clause in the contract.

Make a backup plan with your venue

  • Know your indoor option. For a Sunrise Amphitheater wedding in Boulder, a couple planned an indoor backup nearby. Jared's take: “It is doable. I've done it once.”
  • Plan shade for the violin spot. A canopy or an umbrella works.
  • Check the forecast for cold. If temperatures could be near freezing, plan a heater for the violin spot.
  • Share it on your planning call. Your timeline and backup plan go in your BookLive client portal, and Jared coordinates with your venue and planner.

If weather moves only part of the day indoors, say a ceremony outside and cocktail hour inside, Jared can set up both spots ahead of time and move between them. Power is never the problem: his battery pack runs his setup outdoors for about a day. Power and outlets.

Outdoor wedding questions

Can you play in light rain?

A very fine mist that isn't collecting anywhere is OK. Once drops start falling, the music needs to move under cover.

Do we need to provide shade?

Yes. Some kind of shade is required, and it's in the contract. Venues have provided an umbrella.

What if it's cold?

If the forecast is near 32 degrees, plan on a heater near Jared so his fingers don't freeze.

Our ceremony spot has no power. Is that a problem?

No. Jared's battery pack can power his setup outdoors for about a day.
