Can a violinist play an outdoor corporate event?

Farm dinners, retreats and outdoor receptions are some of the best settings for live music in Colorado, as long as the setup is built for it.

Short answer

Yes. Jared plays farm dinners, retreats and outdoor receptions. He needs shade, ideally a canopy, has a weather plan, and his setup can run on battery power where there's no outlet. He's usually stationed in one area but can walk around a bit.

What an outdoor event needs

  • Shade. “Shade or a canopy would definitely be preferred if possible.” A tent, canopy or umbrella works.
  • Power, or none at all. Jared's setup can run on battery power, so a field, garden or farm with no outlets is fine.
  • A spot to play from. “I'll generally be stationed in one area while performing, but I can walk around a bit depending on the flow of the event.”
  • Nothing else. He brings everything he needs for the performance and arrives about an hour before the first set to set up.

The weather plan

Colorado weather changes fast, so plan with your venue's backup space. A fine mist that isn't collecting on anything is usually fine. Once real raindrops start falling, the electric gear needs to move under cover. Near freezing, Jared needs a heater nearby so his fingers can keep playing. Share your rain plan when you book, and he'll work it into the day.

Outdoor events Extreme Strings has played

  • A company farm dinner run by a corporate retreat planner, outdoors
  • An outdoor dinner in Civic Center Park, Denver
  • A festival at Winged Melody Park in Aurora
  • Farmers markets in Olde Town Arvada and Westminster

For mountain retreats, a travel fee may apply outside metro Denver. Extreme Strings travels anywhere.

Sound in open air

Outdoors there are no walls to carry sound, so an unamplified violin gets lost quickly. Jared brings his own professional speakers sized for the space, and a microphone your host can use for a welcome or a thank-you during his contracted hours. More on his sound system.

Questions planners ask

Do you bring your own canopy?

Shade or a canopy is preferred, so plan to have one at his spot. Jared brings everything else he needs for the performance.

What if there's no power?

Jared's setup can run on battery power, so no outlet is needed.

Can you walk around during the event?

He's generally stationed in one area but can walk around a bit, depending on the flow of the event.

What happens if it rains?

A light mist is usually fine. If rain starts falling, the electric gear needs to move under cover, so plan a backup space with your venue.
